Last trip tattoo – JFK

JFK tattoo

This is it kids. The last trip tattoo. Unless I decide to get one in Austin when I get home. Which is possible. I’m honestly a bit sad that it is almost over, but at the same time I am very anxious to get back home.

Drawn directly on my arm and then tattooed by Chad Koeplinger at the famous New York Adorned.

I guess I missed a post in there about the trip tattoos. In any case I got two since last I posted about them so here goes.

Baltimore:
The tattoo was applied by Josh at the Baltimore Tattoo Museum. He said, “If you are in Baltimore, you should get something a little… urban” and dropped this tag on me. Solid work. If you ever get the chance to visit the Tattoo Museum, I reccomend it. They have an impressive array of flash from top tattoo artists through the years.

Washington, DC:
I was tattooed by Thomas Kenney at Paradise Tattoo in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of DC. I was referred there by friends back home and they treated me right at the shop.

I’m really stoked about the way these tattoos are coming out and the artists are really stepping up the game on my arm.

Just one more tattoo to go, New York City, here I come.

And the carnage continues. BOS is down and was designed and applied by Fat Ram of Fat Ram’s Pumpkin Tattoo. Ram is an awesome artist, skater, stick fighter, shooter and tattooist. I have no doubt that anything he applies his incredible curiosity towards will be mastered. As he  worked on this tattoo he talked about how this was a great “mass-hole” tattoo since it was correct both from the cartographer’s standpoint, but also the Boston typographical love of the Red Sox.

He also mentioned that he didn’t mind “being the best tag on the arm.” Bold words indeed. Judge for yourself, personally I like ‘em all individually, but I think their real magic is as a set representing each piece of the trip.

The trip tattoos are going well, the SFO tattoo is almost done peeling. It will be nice to see the final colors when it is all healed up. I’m liking how distinct each tattoo is.

The latest trip tattoo was designed by my gracious host in Chicago Jason Chalker of Manly Art fame. The tattoo was inked by Scott Santee at Metamorph Studio.

SFO Tattoo done!

SFO

SFO tattoo done! The good people at Idle Hands took care of me. Jason knocked this beauty out quick and clean.

With shop minimums being what they are, the tattoos are going to end up costing me as much as my AYCJ ticket. Such is the cost of quality tattooing. This trip will last a month, the tattoos will last quite a bit longer than that.

So, today is my birthday

I don’t have much to say about that except that I can’t imagine a better way to spend my birthday. I celebrated turning 37 by:

Doing my morning meditation:

Hanging out with good friends at Oddfellows for lunch:

Eating the craziest burger I have ever had in my life:

And now I’m going dancing to top my birthday night off! Later kids, don’t wait up!
