Trip Stats

So here are the grand totals:

Travel

I spent 23 hours and 52 minutes on 9 flights and covered 8565 miles in that time for an average speed of around 360 miles per hour.

I visited 10 cities (Long Beach, Seattle, San Francisco, Oakland, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Washington DC, New York City and Brooklyn) and marked 13 pillows with pomade. I caught up with countless friends and made a number of new ones along the way.

Photography

I took 5800 photos for an average of 187 photos a day. 2165 of those come from the 2 burlesque shows I had the pleasure of shooting.

Camera breakdown:

  • Canon PowerShot G10: 611
  • Sony Alpha 700: 4782
  • iPhone 3GS: 316

I got a lot more out of my iPhone than the numbers would indicate. I enjoyed shooting little things along the way and the iPhone was always the camera on hand. I didn’t enjoy the G10 as much. It was good for in the plane shots and self portraits, but I didn’t get much out of it otherwise.

City Breakdown:

  • Long Beach: 195
  • Seattle: 539
  • San Francisco: 1755 (918 at Hubba Hubba Revue)
  • Chicago: 834
  • Boston: 241
  • Baltimore: 96
  • Washington DC: 255
  • New York: 1885 (1262 at NY Burlesque Fest)

Next step is going through all my photos and publishing the best. I’ll also be telling tales from the adventure as I remember them. I had a great time and couldn’t have done it without help from my friends, family and sponsors, both here and around the country. Thanks everyone!

Ran to the airport late, the auto check-in didn’t work for me and the TSA felt they needed to check out my toiletries. I told the TSA agent that Long Beach was my favorite airport so far and showed him my LGB tattoo as proof. That only brought further delays as then all the other TSA agents needed to see it.

Still made my plane in time.

The flight was the longest one so far, but it wasn’t too bad. Watched some terrible movie on FX with Chow Yun Fat and that Stiffler kid. Terrible like a car wreck, couldn’t look away.

Now comes the part of the trip where I’m not staying places for very long. I’m looking forward to more flying!

Earlier in the week I realized that a 7:00 am departure time was really not going to happen after going to the Hubba Hubba Revue the night before. JetBlue was awesome about switching the flights over. I also sprang the extra $10 for the extra legroom. That put me in a window seat with an empty seat next to me. I was out like a light. Great news.

I’ve been taking self portraits on the flights before lift-off, I’ve gone back and added them to the previous flight logs.

LGB Tattoo

So adding to this excursion I am getting tattooed in each city I’m visiting. I’m going to get a star (or luggage tag, or passport stamp) with the airport code in it all in a line down my arm.

Here is the first one:IMG_0635

The tattoo was applied by James Real of American Beauty Tattoos in Long Beach, CA.

Managed to rook a kid into switching seats with me so he could sit next to his sweet heart. That put me in a row all by myself. Of course that meant I sat directly in front of a kid again, but this one wasn’t too bad. Even on what seemed to be a clear day on the ground, there was a layer of haze over Long Beach when viewed from the air.

With my Rounder playlist playing just a little bit louder than the engines of the plane I drifted off to sleep, only to be jarred awake by the wheels hitting the ground in Seattle.

I made it safe and sound to Long Beach. The flight was pretty straight forward and I shot somewhere around 80 pictures of clouds and the left wing of the plane. There was a kid who spent the first half of the flight yelling “Good bye Texas” in my ear, and the second half was “Hello California.” It was cuter than it sounds. For a while. But I was sitting next to his dad, so I couldn’t really snarl too much. I didn’t sleep so well last night since I was pretty worked up over the trip, but I managed to catch a few winks between good byes and hellos.

Debarking in Long Beach

But I got in just fine, and caught a bus to Broadway and Redondo, picked up the keys to Joey’s place at the bar and I am now settled in Long Beach. I got some awesome fish and chips at E. J. Malloy’s and now I’m wrapping up my day at The Library before we head out on the town.
