About
Last modified: September 1, 2009Me:
My name is Nathan Black. I am a photographer out of Austin, Texas. I have been shooting regularly for the last two years, specializing in events, live music and street photography. I collect pictures of knuckle tattoos and the stories behind them at: knuckletattoos.com
To make ends meet I work in a bar doing security and occasionally bartending.
I spent 7 years in the video game industry, and a few more in other software pursuits.

The Trip:
My life has changed dramatically in the last year. A year ago I had a high tech job and I was in a relationship of seven years. Last October I was laid off and in November my girlfriend and I broke up. I’ve spent the last year working in bars and applying myself to photography.
I am at a unique point in my life. I am able to make ends meet with the night job, and I spend the rest of my time rediscovering what it is to be just myself and taking pictures.
August 13th a friend of mine posted about the JetBlue All-You-Can-Jet deal on Facebook and I realized that I was in, for maybe the only time in my life, a situation where I could take advantage of that type deal.
Dipping into my precious remaining savings, I jumped on the pass. I am spending September 8th to October 8th travelling and visiting all the friends that I have been seperated from geographically.
I will be updating flickr and twitter streams as I go. I will be doing larger updates here. When I get back I will be going through all my photos, editing and posting them. I will also be putting together a show here in Austin.
I will be gone for a month. My current plan has me hitting Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Baltimore, Washington, and New York City. Due to the flexibility of the AYCJ pass, all this is subject to change with three days notice.
